Treatment of Sports Injuries

Many sports injuries involve damage to the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and feet. Dr. Redfern takes time to listen very carefully to his patients as they describe how they were injured, and what kind of problems and symptoms they are having. Dr. Redfern will do a very gentle thorough exam of the involved arm or leg and take x-rays in his office if necessary. Most sports injuries can be diagnosed this way, but occasionally an MRI will be necessary to determine the extent of the injury. Dr. Redfern is well known for being conservative and giving patients a chance to heal with non-operative methods if indicated. These can include rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), as well as anti-inflammatory medicine, physical therapy, or limited cortisone injections. When conservative therapy is not indicated or fails, Dr. Redfern has the surgical expertise to rebuild joints, ligaments, and tendons.
